It is a lovely pink flower growing upright straight out of the ground and about 8 inches high. It is in damp conditions and happily growing alongside rodgersia and solomon's seal. It is quite spectacular!

Butterbur at Belvoir!
Can anyone help me please as today I have stumbled upon the most intriguing plant!
It is a lovely pink flower growing upright straight out of the ground and about 8 inches high. It is in damp conditions and happily growing alongside rodgersia and solomon's seal. It is quite spectacular!

Bernard one of our volunteers at Belvoir has done his research and found out that this plant is known as 'Butterbur' (Petasites). It is native to England and grows on river banks and near ponds. It is known as butter bur as years ago people used to wrap butter in them. So it's not rare at all - quite common I think!
